East Bay AHEC

Housed at Tiburcio Vasquez Health Center (TVHC) located in Hayward, the Alameda County AHEC works to increase the number of health professionals providing multicultural and linguistically appropriate quality health care and related services in southern and central Alameda County. The Alameda County AHEC trains nursing students from Ohlone College and Chabot College, dental students and medical assistants through Chabot College, Nurse Practitioner residents via a partnership with LifeLong Medical and UCSF, and other externships/preceptorships with other local schools through clinical rotations and training. Health professionals from area community health centers also receive professional education and training on clinical safety practices.

Since 1971, TVHC has provided comprehensive medical, dental, and mental health care, youth health services, community health outreach and education, family support services, and Women Infants and Children (WIC) nutrition services to low-income, limited English proficient, uninsured, and publicly insured patients. As a non-profit, federally qualified health center with over 300 health professional and support staff, TVHC operates eight primary care clinics: Hayward Clinic; Union City Clinic; San Leandro Clinic; Silva Pediatric Clinic (Hayward); the Firehouse Clinic (Hayward);  Tennyson Health Center at Tennyson High School (Hayward), Hayward Health Center at Hayward High School, the Logan Health Center at the James Logan High School (Union City), and the Chabot Health Center at Chabot Community College. TVHC also has four WIC nutrition services locations, a street health team providing care to the homeless community, and one combined behavioral health-family support services site.
