The South Bay AHEC is hosted by the Community Health Partnership (CHP), a community clinic consortium of 10 community health center members with 41 sites serving Santa Clara and San Mateo counties. The South Bay AHEC partners with community-based organizations and county programs that work in behavioral health, intimate partner violence, labor rights, immigrant rights, and the many areas that affect social determinants of health.
In addition, the South Bay AHEC has also created a partnership with Mission Community College, where students can earn a certificate in Community Health Work while completing an externship at a CHP member clinic. The South Bay AHEC provides community-based clinical experience for health professions students and residents; provides training and development for practicing health professionals; teaches residents/health professions students to conduct health education in community organizations, clinics, and educational institutions; and provides health careers pipeline opportunities for high school and college students. The South Bay AHEC also provides training in emergency preparedness, health coverage initiatives, quality improvement initiatives, and women’s health programs.
